Doug is an HSE accredited trainer for First Aid, an advisor for the Royal Life Saving Society and a trainer/assessor for the Safety Training Association. Guidelines and Statutory Requirements

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981

Regulation 3 requires every employer to provide equipment and facilities which are adequate and appropriate in the circumstances for administering first aid to his employees.

The regulations are backed up by an Approved Code of Practice (1997 revision) which requires employers to carry out a risk assessment for first aid requirements.

Generally, medium to high risk workplaces and all workplaces with over 50 employees require “suitable persons” to administer first aid. As a base-line, a suitable person must hold a “First Aid at Work” certificate approved by the Health and Safety Executive.

As a minimum an employer must provide an “appointed person” at all times when  employees are at work. It is recommended that the appointed person be able to administer emergency first aid and be responsible for the equipment provided. HSE does not offer formal approval for appointed person training, but the Approved Code of Practice “strongly recommends” employers to consider the need for emergency first aid training.

European Resuscitation Council

All courses are updated to incorporate the guidelines in force at the time of delivery.

Certification

TfC attendance certificate complying with the Approved Code of Practice for all courses except AED Defibrillation and First Aid at Work.

AED Defibrillation: TfC attendance certificate to meet European Resuscitation Council guidelines.
