SVQ Health and Social Care Level 3

Training for Experienced Staff  Working in 

Community Care or Residential Care for Older People

 

Course Dates  

  • Distance Learning Option available from January 2009

  • Course dates will be advertised a minimum of 3 months prior to the start of the course.

 

Course details

Eligibility 

Candidates must:

  • be in a job role which meets Health and Social Care SVQ 3 standards

  • work at times without direct supervision

  • have a minimum of two years’ relevant experience

 

Length

  • 9 months

 

Content & Structure

  • The course will be delivered using the Learning Assistant e-portfolio system.

  • The course is divided into two stages. Progression to the second stage requires candidates to have demonstrated during the first stage that they have the ability, job role and support of their workplace to have a realistic expectation of achieving the qualification.

 

Stage One (2 months)

  • Tutorials: 7 days: introduction to SVQs, underpinning knowledge, and Learning Assistant e-portfolio

    These are the only times that candidates will be required to leave the workplace

 

Stage Two (7 months)

  • On-line support

  • 3 workplace observation visits by TfC peripatetic assessor

  • Awarding body registration and certification

  • All assessment and internal verification

  • SQA manuals, TfC learning materials, and award stationery requirements

 

Workplace Inputs

  • Provision of dedicated mentor for candidate

  • Provision of essential witness statements by appropriate staff members

  • Liaison with TfC peripatetic assessor

  • Respond supportively to the candidate’s training needs

 

Candidate Inputs

  • Tutorial attendance as above 

  • Completion of assignments and accounts of practice 

  • Availability for workplace visits 

  • Commitment to private study appropriate to an SCQF level 6 qualification
